Giao Long Resort, Loc An

Vietnam
2016

Giao Long Resort is located on a beachfront site to the east of Ho Chi Minh City. The development comprises two hotels, 27 villas, 18 beachside apartments, a spa and a destination beach club.

The masterplan is inspired by the Vietnamese dragon, or ‘Giao Long’, with the two hotels ‘dragons’ guarding the development, and overlooking the central beach club. To either side of the club are the villa and apartments developments, comprising residential units with either beach or lagoon views.

Inspired by the dragon and also the concept of the luxury yacht, the forms of the hotels are dynamic curved waves in both plan and section to allow all guest rooms to have sea views.

This design ethos is carried through into the villas folded planes in clean whites and greys creating a contemporary minimalist ‘nautical’ backdrop to the building, softened with the use of stone and warm timber.
