The 17,500m² Orchard Road site was cleared of the 1960’s existing buildings for 4 new blocks consisting of a 5-storey Embassy Building, a 3-storey Visa Services Building, an Ambassador’s Residence and a Residence for Department of Commercial Affairs staff

The original design featured a large forecourt form Orchard Road in place of the old Embassy Building leading to a Thai pavilion in the middle of the site

However, the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs had decided not to demolish but to maintain and refurbish the prominent old Embassy Building for new uses resulting in planning revision of the site and an extended completion date beyond the December 2012 original
