AWP Jakarta Charity Initiative 2022

Love Orphanage (Panti Asuhan Karena Kasih) is an orphanage established with the aim of improving the welfare of children through education and social activities. This orphanage is located in Sunter, North Jakarta and was established in 1993. The children in this orphanage are of various ages, from 4 to 23 years. Children’s activities are filled with non-formal education PKBM (Center for Community Learning Activities) held in the orphanage and religious education such as worship. PKBM is non-formal education which is equivalent to formal education in schools. The caretakers of the orphanage hope that the children can become successful, and skilled, and will be able to contribute to society. For operational costs, Because of Love Orphanage relies on donations from the general public.

For this year’s charity initiative, we nominate this orphanage because it is a small size orphanage that still needs help and is solely dependent on donation. Some of the children are orphans, some still have their mothers but could not afford to raise them, and some are results of unwanted pregnancies. Despite those conditions, Pak Yunus & Bu Rebecca, the “parents” of this orphanage, showed genuine love to these children and care for them as their own. The children are homeschooled and will be able to obtain high school diploma should they want to pursue a university degree. Those that do not want to study further will be able to apply for a job since they are trained with the vocational school curriculum.
