Anglican High School

Singapore
2006

Perched on a knoll at the end of Upper Changi Road, Anglican High School sits on a site with an area approximately 4.5 hectares. The existing cluster of school buildings date from 1960 with the exception of Classroom Block A and Administration Block B that are constructed in 1994

The main design intention is to stitch up the existing clusters of buildings with new covered linkways, administrative block, classroom blocks to form courtyards where the constituent outdoor space can supplements the pedagogical needs of the indoor rooms.

As there is no tall building situated near to the school premises, AWP adopted bold geometric shapes with clean lines for the form of the buildings to express its modernity. Contrasted against the clear azure blue sky, these bold geometric shapes give rise to powerful, dramatic effects that leaves one with a strong impression of the entire school. Full glazed curtain wall wraps round the corners of these building, housing the staircases and providing one with multiple views of the surrounding while winding down the steps.
