Founded in 1957 by the first Singapore Institute of Architects Gold Medalist, AWP remains committed to excellence in design and delivery through innovation, appropriate methodology and experience. It is our objective to provide solutions that are logically arrived at relative to issues of context, culture, function, form and construction, which are consistent with cost effective utilization of our client‟s investment capital and the sustainability of the built environment.

Legibility is given to the hierarchy of spaces by the clear or partially abstracted expression of the building‟s functions, contrasts of scale and form, contrast of material selection, mixed construction technology and detail to describe and reinforce selected elements within the architectural narrative and response to the site. The intellectual freedom of our approach provides much of the creative stimulus, unconstrained as it is from many pre-conceptions of style and regionalism, allowing more options to be evaluated, employed or rejected in pursuit of an intrinsic logic and a clarity of perception and reason.

The ambition of our work is an attempt to address this through the orchestration of how a building is created and perceived based upon inquiry, logic and reason. Critical concerns explored are those of legibility, hierarchy, narrative creation, appropriate technology usage and an honesty of expression based upon rationally derived and mutually reinforcing ideas for each independent project. This allows recognition of multi-cultural influences, contrasts of client expectation and requirement, technological advances and varying responses to a particular context and climate to be an intrinsic part of the methodological stimulus which is translated into contrasts of architectural form and detail.

An approach that must include an awareness of economic, policy, management and the cultural context of regeneration and development in order to operate in an effective way with stakeholders, such as local residents, colleagues, experts, policy makers and representatives of funding bodies, in an increasingly multi-cultural world.

Architecture, Regeneration and Development

AWP‟s design director in addition to being an architect is qualified in both Built Resource Studies (BRS) and Environmental Sustainable Design (ESD). The practices resource strength and structure allows such value added expertise to be directly applied to our projects, providing AWP with the ability to consider both new and inherited built environments.

Built Resources Studies (International Architectural Regeneration and Development) is concerned with vernacular architecture, culture and the environment relative to requirements of conservation, adaptive reuse, regeneration, re–development, sustainability and urban design. It recognises inherited natural and built environments as a significant cultural and environmental resource whose regeneration is an essential component of sustainable development.

Globalisation, urbanisation, population growth, environmental change and technological developments have resulted in a complex and dynamic situation effecting cultural heritage and the nature of our built environments. This requires architecture and planning to be both culturally and environmentally sustainable with its designers possessing the necessary knowledge, skills and sensitivity to contribute creatively to the innovative re-use, regeneration and development of the inherited built environment.

AWP – Interior Design

AWP-ID was formed to serve clients that wanted and ID solution that directly related to the architectural intent of our buildings. It has since successfully expanded its sphere of activities to independent Interior Architecture commissions ranging from hospitality to technical fit-outs, leveraging on AWP‟s broad architectural experience of various building typologies.

AWP-ID consists of a team of international Architects and Interior Designers that provide versatile experience in the Interior Design of hospitality, corporate and commercial projects, whilst providing planning and technical fit out services for Data Centres, Laboratories, Clean rooms and manufacturing facilities. A key advantage of this team being its breadth of knowledge and its multidisciplinary co-ordination ability for design, construction and project management.

AWP-ID approach to Design is to create an interior space that appropriately responds to the architectural context to create a dynamic user experience from exterior to interior, whilst striving for better solutions to address the individual needs of the project and client in terms of function, marketing strategy and uniqueness of Design.
